Bed, Bath and Beyond has integrated an “omni-always” approach with a clear focus on the consumer. Inspired by their customer-first mindset, data finds, and new leadership, the retail chain has added several enhanced omnichannel features. This includes contactless store models, curbside pickup, and same-day delivery services. Bed Bath and Beyond is also using a majority of their stores as fufillment centers to complete online orders.
Bed, Bath and Beyond’s omnichannel infrastructure has existed for a few years, but the pandemic allowed the company to accelerate their procedures to meet ever-changing consumer needs. Instead of one channel vs. the other, they have both mediums to work together as the core of their business model.
The chain’s retail footprint is a strategic asset that they plan to invest in, remodel and evolve for future growth initiatives. Bed, Bath and Beyond’s brick-and-mortar stores are highly valuable for the physical elements they bring to consumers. But, they also serve as key part of their supply chain model, which they are consistently adapting to today’s landscape. The retailer can complete orders faster than direct-to-consumer brands because they have their brick-and-mortar stores to fulfill from. In their most recent quarter, 36% of all digital orders were fulfilled from stores.
“95% of our sales are created within 25 miles of each one our stores. From that vantage point, it is critical that each one of our stores are strategic assetts, and that it is our job to make it easy and convenient for our customers through as many services as we can,” said Gregg Melnick, Executive Vice President and Chief Stores Officer during an interview with Total Retail Talks.
Bed, Bath and Beyond’s new omnichannel strategies have allowed them to grow tremendously as a brand, bringing in 2 million new users.
