DICK’S rolls out new discount store concepts

DICK’S Sporting Goods recently announced their plans to open two new store concepts, both with a focus on clearance and discounts. The sporting goods retailer has expanded its brick-and-mortar footprint by opening eight of these new concept stores across the nation.

The focus of DICK’S new initiative is to bring customers back in the store by giving them access to popular name brands at a heavily discounted price. This plan comes in perfect timing too, when many retailers are unsure of what to do with extra merchandise that was not sold during COVID-19 store closures. DICK’S will be able to use that unsold merchandise in their new store openings.

The concepts feature two types of stores:

  1. OVERTIME by DICK’S Sporting Goods – These locations will feature an assortment of apparel footwear and equipment at up to 75% off. New markdowns will also be continuously added to keep merchandise fresh.
  2. DICK’S Sporting Goods Warehouse Sale – This shopping experience will provide a temporary pop-up-style, offering footwear and apparel at up to 90% off over the next six months.

Three of DICK’S OVERTIME stores and five of their Warehouse stores have recently opened. With these openings, the retailer now has 11 outlet and clearance centers in nine different states.

Creating a “treasure hunt” experience for consumers has become increasingly popular in brick-and-mortar retail. Especially when you look at the recent success of off-price retailers like Marshall’s and TJ Maxx. These new concepts will give DICK’S the power to strengthen their physical presence, appeal to more consumers and further expand their footprint.
