Google focuses technology on brick-and-mortar shopping experience

Over the last several months, Google searches for “curbside pickup” and “safe shopping” have become more frequent now than ever before. Google has decided to further help their users navigate the unknowns when it comes to shopping in person.

Google has updated their shopping results through their search platform, letting consumers easily find local businesses that have curbside or in-store pick-up. Users can use the “Nearby” filter located on the shopping tab to find local stores and see if items they are looking for are located at nearby locations. Shoppers can also see which stores offer curbside or in-store pickup, while gaining access to store hours, phone numbers and directions.

By providing this solution, Google not only helps their users, but businesses as well. This feature can help drive traffic to those who need it most, such as small, local businesses. Businesses will want to take advantage of Google’s newest addition, by updating their Google My Business profile so they can upload their in-store product offerings and pick-up options.

Google’s new feature uses technology to drive the brick-and-mortar shopping experience. With this, the tech giant has taken another step to provide convenience to its users by further removing friction between physical and digital – an omnichannel strategy we believe will continue to evolve and enhance the brick-and-mortar shopping experience.
