Searchmetrics’ conducted a study to find the list of the top 10 e-commerce winners by Google searches in 2021. Top companies on that list are big box retailers and department store brands that have a strong emphasis on brick-and-mortar retail.
No pure-play e-commerce or DTC brands made the top 10 list. All research from the study points to the fact that these companies have physical locations that significantly impact their overall performance – both online and offline.
Apple had the most search visibility in 2021, with Nordstrom, BestBuy, Walmart and Target following closely behind.
“The pandemic continued to impact people’s ability or willingness to shop freely in physical stores last year, meaning curb-side pickup, click-and-collect and buy online pickup instore (BOPIS) have been booming. So perhaps it’s fitting that the sites that have made the most gains in search during the year are mainly those with physical stores who can offer shoppers these options,” said Lillian Haase, CMO of Searchmetrics.
