SYRACUSE, N.Y. – November 6, 2023 – As Spinoso Real Estate Group (SREG) continues to build their industry-leading Enclosed Mall Operating Platform, the company has announced that industry veteran Ben Brotzman has joined SREG’s senior leadership team as Director of Anchor Leasing. In his new role, Brotzman will be responsible for managing, developing and maintaining the relationships of national, regional, and local Anchor tenants across SREG’s portfolio. Additionally, he will work closely with the company’s leasing, development and construction functions to ensure maximum large-space inventory production.
“I became interested in exploring a career at SREG due to my firsthand experience collaborating with them during my tenure at Macy’s,” said Brotzman, “I’ve witnessed the remarkable work that SREG is undertaking and recognized the potential for growth and impact. The shopping center industry is currently experiencing a profound transformation, presenting SREG with a distinctive opportunity to leverage this evolution to their advantage.”
Brotzman brings with him over 15 years of experience in the shopping center industry, including management and development of large-scale retail and big box real estate.
“I am thrilled to welcome Ben to the company,” said Carmen D. Spinoso, Chairman and CEO of SREG. “His wealth of experience and industry knowledge will be a tremendous asset to our team. We are excited about the energy, creativity and talent Ben will bring to our company as we continue to push the boundaries of excellence in retail real estate,” added Spinoso.
Prior to joining SREG, Brotzman most recently served as Director of Real Estate for Macy’s, Inc., where he was responsible for the oversight of all real estate holdings in the northeast and southeast regions of the United States as well as Puerto Rico. In this role, Brotzman was instrumental in identifying monetization opportunities in a dynamic real estate landscape. His ability to cultivate strong relationships with brokers, shopping center owners, and industry stakeholders has consistently translated into advantageous deals for Macy’s. Brotzman further optimized Macy’s real estate portfolio, pioneering innovative strategies that capitalized on emerging market trends. He aligned Macy’s physical footprint with evolving consumer preferences, ensuring the brand maintained its prominence in the competitive retail industry.
“What particularly impressed me is the cohesive and forward-thinking team Carmen has assembled. Carmen and his team have established a sterling reputation among the shopping center industry and the financial institutions whose assets SREG manages across the nation, an area where SREG excels. This reputation is also critical to the success of the firm’s leasing pipeline,” said Brotzman.
Prior to joining Macy’s, Brotzman was Vice President of Anchor Leasing and Development at Brookfield Properties Retail in Chicago, a role in which he led a team in the implementation of its development strategy. Notable accomplishments include negotiating anchor store leases, purchase and sale agreements, and private party entitlement consent agreements for the firm’s multi-billion-dollar development and redevelopment pipeline. Prior to this role, Brotzman designed and supported business improvements in the financial operations group at Brookfield Properties Retail where he oversaw the successful implementation of a fully integrated collections module and business intelligence reporting system.
“We are excited to welcome Ben to our expanding team of exceptionally skilled deal makers,” added Mike Nevins, EVP of Leasing at SREG, “his expertise and experience with Anchor and large format retailers will be instrumental to our continued success as we intently grow and expand our portfolio of assets. We look forward to working with Ben in his new role with Spinoso Real Estate Group”.
Before joining Brookfield Properties Retail, Brotzman managed a team of accountants in financial operations at Simon Property Group. During his time there, he collaborated with treasury to develop and maintain the ACH payment program that provided tenant rent payments at a more rapid pace.
This decision to join SREG is an exciting opportunity that marks the beginning of a new chapter in Brotzman’s career.
“Overall, the combination of a growth-focused environment, a winning culture, and experienced leadership made SREG a profoundly attractive and promising opportunity where I believe I may best contribute to the team’s continued success,” said Brotzman.
Brotzman graduated from the University of Denver with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Real Estate.
