TikTok has become one of the fastest growing digital platforms since the beginning of the pandemic. The app has reached over 1 billion users, and continues to grow at a rapid rate daily. On top of this, the platform’s organic reach is off-the-charts, which is unheard of for most social media platforms.
TikTok has proven its strength and ability to overpower the digital world. And one thing is for sure – the app is here to stay. So, this begs the question – would its digital ability translate equally as strong in physical elements? The answer is plain and simple – yes, it would. And the proof is in the pudding.
The platform has spent a week running a pop-up brick-and-mortar shop in the UK for brands and creators. The pop-up serves as a space for creators to better understand the app and showcase ways they can sell through the platform.
TikTok Shop UK opened in London just this past weekend and provides a real-world setting for prospective sellers to see what’s being sold on the platform, meet with TikTok experts to learn about social selling and host live streams. The pop-up shop focuses on three popular product categories: tech, home and living, and books.
“Through this exciting pop-up shop on the iconic Oxford Street, we hope to shine a light on the opportunities available for merchants and creators to be discovered and thrive on the platform,” Patrick Nommensen, General Manager of eCommerce at TikTok.
TikTok has become a home for “community commerce” where creators share must-have items, including food, tech, books, clothing and more. Haul videos have become a popular trend among the app, showing creators shopping in stores for their favorite finds. The app serves as a place to bring together communities through entertainment and shopping (very similar to a mall shopping center, we may add). Brick-and-mortar retail creates spaces for community and so does TikTok, and when these two finally do work hand-in-hand, their power together will be truly unstoppable.
“TikTok’s community has created a brand-new era of social commerce opportunities, where a single piece of content can quickly go viral and create both demand and opportunity. We’ve seen merchants and creators transform their businesses and their lives in a way that would be impossible on any other platform,” said Nommensen.
